PM: SPORTTOTAL AG and WHU agree partnership deal

Düsseldorf/Cologne, 12 December 2017.

WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and SPORTTOTAL AG have signed a cooperation agreement. The cooperation focuses on joint research projects as well as technical support for sporttotal.tv provided by the Center for Sports and Management of the WHU in Düsseldorf. The partnership is set up for an initial period until December 31, 2019.

Sporttotal.tv equips amateur clubs in Germany from the fourth league up with special technology to automatically transmit live football games in high quality. Using an app (available free of charge from the Store), viewers themselves can control their chosen views and perspectives on games, and share scenes on social media. In addition, sporttotal.tv is cooperating with FUSSBALL.DE, the amateur football portal with the best reach, operated by the German Football Association (DFB) and its regional associations. Unique 180° camera technology installed on the pitch forms the centrepiece of sporttotal.tv. The system’s software, which can automatically follow the game without the need for a chip in the football or on a player’s shirt, is its special innovation. Allianz Deutschland AG, Deutsche Post AG and Telekom Deutschland are supporting sporttotal.tv gmbh as founding partners. BILD is a media partner, and for the 2016/2017 second round has already launched a weekly highlights show for games broadcast on sporttotal.tv.

Peter Lauterbach, CEO of SPORTTOTAL AG:

“SPORTTOTAL AG aims to support WHU’s research efforts long-term. We’re very pleased that, with the Center for Sports and Management and the WHU, we’ve gained one of Europe’s leading business schools as a partner to provide technical support to establish our sporttotal.tv streaming portal. WHU’s research will significantly strengthen the medialization of amateur sports over the coming years.”

Prof. Sascha L. Schmidt (Director of the Center for Sports and Management):

“Providing technical support to help establish sporttotal.tv is one of the currently most exciting ventures in the international sports business. We’re proud to be able to work together long-term with SPORTTOTAL AG and its partners, experience its further development first-hand and support it technically.”
