More than just a platform: sporttotal creates its own AI-based camera system

Cologne, 2 July 2020. gmbh, one of Europe’s largest multi-sport streaming platforms and a wholly owned subsidiary of SPORTTOTAL AG, has developed its own compact camera system based on artificial intelligence. sporttotal is positioning itself independently for the future with the new 180° camera and, starting with the new season, will be broadcasting events from an even wider range of different sports. The centrepiece of the technology is artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Berlin-based sporttotal Development Lab and geared specifically to live operation. In combination with the technical preconditions of the camera, this AI, with its extremely efficient and high performance image processing, will form the basis of almost all sport broadcasting on sporttotal. sporttotal now manages the entire value chain itself as an independent technology company. 

Technical features: new camera broadcasts in full HD

Together with its integrated AI software, the new camera allows all games to be broadcast on a completely automated basis for the first time in full HD. By using various AI algorithms, sports events can be fully shown and streamed autonomously, automatically or manually via cloud management. The artificial intelligence identifies different situations in the games on its own. Virtually latency-free implementation enables the seamless broadcasting of games in all known ball sports and allows the product to be used additionally for gambling platforms. This has put sporttotal in the top league of qualitative automated sports coverage. The weatherproof camera which stands a mere 16 cm high will be equipped with several individual lenses. It will be installed on a mast, the roof of stadium or in a sports building at the height of the centre line. With a horizontal view of more than 180°, the game can be fully encompassed and analysed by AI. Since the launch of the live streaming platform, the company has produced and processed almost 20,000 live streams from eight different sport disciplines with more than 35,000 hours of material from professional and amateur sport, a stellar result in Europe.
